Bulldogs star Dallin Watene-Zelezniak had a moment to forget early on against the Eels.
The Bulldogs star retrieved a kick from Eels halfback Mitchell Moses and was met with solid defence on the kick-return.
Hooker Reed Mahoney flipped DWZ around in the tackle and the Canterbury winger lost his bearings, causing him to play-the-ball the wrong way.
“Oh no, that’s one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen,” Michael Ennis said for Fox Sports.
“He’s played the ball the wrong way, he’s done a ‘Marty Bella’. My goodness he’s lost his compass,” added commentator Warren Smith.
“That’s a moment Watene-Zelezniak would like back.”
The moment brought league fans back to the 1990’s with the former Maroons and Manly prop Bella immortalised for backwards play-the-ball, after producing a memorable one in State of Origin.
Unfortunately DWZ has been known to have the odd brain explosion every now and then, with the former Panther racking up plenty of errors this year.
The mistake proved to be a costly one as the Eels punished the Bulldogs just a minute later when Clint Gutherson crossed to extend Parramatta’s lead.
“On the back of it (the penalty), they shift it left to Michael Jennings, who’s been absolutely magnificent this year, who then delivers a perfect inside ball to Clint Gutherson who strolls over.”
